It all began with a game called The Sims. I know........What the heck do Design Awards and Classes have to do with a game? Well for those of you not familiar..........The Sims is a computer game where you simulate life. You feed, clothe, house, well completely control simulated people. The Sims live, eat, date, marry, shower, pee (LOL), procreate and even die. The biggest draw for me was designing their homes and then being the interior decorator!! But that is where PSP and Design came in. I found a HUGE Sims community (kinda like the PSP community) online. Many, many groups were devoted to the Sims. I discovered that you could make things for the Sims game in Paint Shop Pro. Well I was intrigued. Soooooo, I bought Paint Shop Pro and set out on a quest to learn how to create new furniture and clothing for my Sims. In my quest to learn PSP I found a whole other community................PSP'ers!!! To make a long story short, I kind of lost interest in the Sims and began a wonderful journey to learning graphic design. The first thing I did was buy a book. It was called Paint Shop Pro Zero To Hero. You can find it Here. In less than 1 week, I knew all of the tools of the program and what they did!! Great start. From there I joined just about every PSP group on the net!! 2 to 3 thousand emails a day!! Whew..............hard to keep up, but I did and I tried every tutorial I could find. Then I moved on to Hooty's Stationery Tutorials and Animation Classes. Hooty is the guru of the psp community. He not only helps with learning PSP, he also has a huge knowledge base that helps troubleshoot Incredimail, Paint Shop Pro and even some Windows issues. You can find a wealth of information Here at Hooty's site. Once I could make all of these wonderful graphics and designs I thought "What can I do with all of these creations." Well the obvious next step was to create my own website to share my goodies with the PSP comunity. But I didn't have a clue how to build a website. Thus the classes in HTML, CSS and Web design. I will provide links to the various sites and groups that were sooooo enormously responsible for all that I have learned about web design. |
